1. When first encountering wiki at the beginning of the course.
  • What do you think/feel about this collaborative learning environment ?
  • What are your expectations for yourself ?
  • If you have previously used wiki in another course, describe what you have previously learned and how you want to expand your understanding.
  • What can you contribute as an experienced participant?

My first encounter with Wiki was last year when I took CCT205. This year however, was different from lat year in terms of what we as students do with the program. I enjoy working on wiki because I get other people’s opinion on my work. I expect that other students and I edit others work and be helpful in correcting. I also aspect that others are considerate of others work and progress within wikispaces. Last year when I took CCT205 I really only learned the basic’s on wiki (how to input writing and import images). This year has been great because I learnt how to add pictures, change the lay out of the wiki, build my own wiki etc… As a previous wiki user, I am able to add, build a community within my courses that allow one to get feedback on work that has been presented.


2. Think about the following and answer to the best of your ability:
  • How do you choose which postings to contribute or change? What do you look for?
  • What are your thoughts on adding, editing or re-arranging other people's work?
  • Do you regularly check your own postings for alterations? Has anyone changed your work and how have you felt about it?

In terms of choosing what to post on wiki, I choose a topic that is very interesting to me and a topic that I can talk about. I am not contented when I have to post information on a topic where my knowledge is not the greatest. However, when changing someone else’s work I look for spelling/grammar errors, or I will see there topic, read about it and then search the net to see if there is anything else that I can change or add. A person may not have gotten all the information they needed on a certain topic. I am not sure weather I like to edit, change, or re-arrange anyone else’s work because I am not sure if that’s what they wanted into there work. I also know that I enjoy when people edit my work so maybe they will also appreciate it as well. I do not really check my posting for alternations. Some times I do when I am reading my work over again just to see if it makes any sense. I do not like it when people completely change my work, however I do like it when they add there own opinions and comments to the work that I have contributed.


3. As a final reflection for the course, post your thoughts and ideas on:
  • challenges or limitations you experienced while working collaboratively on wiki
  • advantages or benefits from participating in this wiki
  • things about the course you thought worked well and/or suggested improvements
Some of the challenges/limitations that I encountered with the Wikispaces were that whenever I wanted to post information on wiki, I would always have to typing everything out on word and than transfer it to wiki because it has no spell check.
Some of the advantages and benefits from participating in wiki would be that I learnt a lot about topics that I would have never taken interest unless in a class situation like this one. I also got to interact and work with people that I probably would have never done so.
I think that the wikispaces are a really great way to build the course. I always enjoy working with it. The only thing that probably does not work well is that a lot of the students do not start early. The only thing that I would suggest for improvement is to have the wikispaces due early to avoid stress on the students and on the professor for the final two weeks when everything else is due.
